Research

For my research I had looked at a few new websites and see what is not covered as much as it should be. The one thing which I didn’t see pop up on any news sites was anything about mental health. This made me start thinking why mental health on media. Is it due to the fact it is a sensitive topic and they don’t want to hurt people which are reading it. Or is it because the people who own these main stream media papers and news pages don’t care about mental health.
So that made me decide to do my work about mental health as it has a huge impact on people no matter how old or young you are. I also thought about which types of mental health impact more people. But then I decided for my topic to just talk about mental health as a whole and speak about what main stream media doesn’t speak about. This made my design of my triptych come into my head. I wanted to show that people who have mental health are able to break through it no matter how low they are. They should know that there are people and organisations that would listen to them. The organisations that came to my mind is Mental Health Foundation and Mind. These are the two well-known charities in the UK which help people with mental health.

Pre-Production

Before I even started to decide what images to use I created a mood board this was so that all the ideas I come up with is able to be shown on my blog and then from all the images texts which is on the mood board gets chosen from there. I decided to make my own quote as the quotes which I had found were not good for the work I was going to show. I had used Photoshop to design which layout would be the best for my work as well.

The one I liked more was 3 pages going from low to high which shows in mental health you are able to go from a low point to a high point in life. It make take time or it may not take time but it’s possible and everyone can push through anything which it putting them down. That is why I decided on the low-high for my triptych. This would also make the viewer want to read what is says and see what it actually is about. As the triptych has a funky style to it as most triptychs just go in a straight line up or down. Whereas my design would have a better view on it and be more engaging.

Questionnaire

I decided to make a questionnaire to get a variety of people opinions on mental health. The results stayed anonymous as I didn’t want people to think that I would have judged them or just thought of them differently. This made my answers more safe and secure. I also had to think of questions which wouldn’t affect them in anyway. I also had to pick questions which wouldn’t be too personal so I had added a yes, no, maybe answers as this made it easier and so that people wouldn’t judge them for what they say or answer with. They were allowed to circle to maybe if they didn’t want to tell anyone about it.
