Audience theory
Hypodermic syringe model – is when information is forced
into someone head which the media want them to know.
Passive audience – They listen to everything the media tells
them and do not question anything.
Two Step flow
Opinion leaders get information from a media source. Than they pass their own interpretation to other people such as family and friends. Than they pay attention to what is being said in the media and among their family and peer groups.
Uses and gratifications
·
The need to identity
·
The need to be informed and educated
·
The need to be entertained
·
The need to escape
·
The need to use the social media for social
interactions or discussions.
The tipping point
80% of the work is done by 20% of the audience.
Connectors – people who link groups of people together.
Mavens – Experts and knowledge people who advise and help
others. The ‘aficionados’, often.
The stickiness Factor – (the memorability of certain
messages) they will use rhyme, imagery and shock to boost the stickiness in
their message.
Context – advertisement plans for one company may not work
for another company.

Research the issue
What is the issue?
The issue is about how people judge each other without
knowing what they are going through. The issue I will talk about is depression.
What is your message trying to communicate?
That mental health isn’t something which people should not
keep to themselves but tell other people. Everyone goes through mental health
once in their life time some people go through it every day. You should always
tell people than keep it to themselves cause otherwise it will hurt you more
and more in the long run and when it gets to serious it will hurt more.
Who do you want to take notice? Who is the target
audience?
The people I want to take notice is people friends which are
going through mental health. To be able to spot if someone is actually going
through mental health and how to support them.
My target audience is the young teenagers and young children
which are having issues at home or at school. This can go from being depressed
or emotionally unstable to losing a family member which can cause a huge impact
on the way you think about life and your future.
What is the context?
·
Include some statistical information
·
Include relevant organisations
·
Include relevant institutions
The context about the project I am doing is to inform people
about how serious mental health is and that people should pay more attention to
it.
·
50% of mental health problems occur at the age
of 14 and 75% by age 24.
·
70% of children have not been appropriately been
intervened at an early age.
Some organisations which are set up to help people with
mental health are:
·
Mental health foundation (020 7803 1101)
·
Together (020 7780 7300)
·
Depression alliance (0845 123 2320)
Relevant institutions which are able to help are:
·
Your GP (Doctors)
·
Cygnet Hospital Harrow (020 8966 7000)
·
Bentley House (020 8424 7701)
·
Cygnet Lodge Harrow (020 8907 0770)
What primary research can you conduct?
·
What do you want to find out or verify?
I want to find out how people would be able to tell if
someone is going through something and how they would be able to tell. This
could be being able to look at someone’s facial expressions or just being able
to tell by their voice. This would be able to find out but if you are able to
tell than you should also be able to comfort the person which is going though
those things.

Research into Mind and Mental Health Foundation
Mind
Mind is a mental health charity which was founded in 1946.
The 70th anniversary for mind was in 2016. This charity offers
advice and information about mental health problem to people which suffer from
it. Mind are a public charity which try to support people which are suffering
from mental health.
Mind has measured this over the last year and these were the
results.
20.6 in 100 people have suicidal thoughts
6.7 in 100 people have suicide attempts
7.3 in 100 people have done self-harm
Mind is a national scale of support they help 513,000 people
in around 135 local minds in England and Wales.
For every pound Mind spend they receive an average of £6.14
back.
Minds overall income every year is £40 million but there
overall spending is £39.7 million.
The yearly income of the charity is £28.1 million.
The design used is a triptych. This design has a lot of
detail on what mind does as a charity and a lot of information. They also have
put in contact details on so that if people need to contact mind they can call
that number straight away. The front page of the leaflet has someone which has
a smile with a quote at the bottom of the picture. The quote is explaining that
you shouldn’t do anything to harm you or anyone, if you feel like doing that
contact mind and they can support you and help you out.
This poster has an eye-catching background. The use of the
bright colours would make the viewer want to see what it is about. The use of
small and big texts would also affect the way people look at the text. The use
of statistics would make the viewer more engaged into understanding what it is
about and how it has helped people. This leaflet is more descriptive as it
gives both information and stats. My personal opinion of this leaflet is this
is one of the best leaflets as its both eye catching and descriptive.
Mental Health
Foundation
The mental health foundation was founded in 1949. It is a
British charitable organisation that provides information. They carry out
research and campaigns to help improve services for people affected by mental
health. The type of business the foundation is a Private limited company.
The charity is a regional charity which is a UK based
charity. They are a public charity as they accept donations from the public, so
they can survive as a charity/foundation. The main aims for the charity are to
help people understand, protect and maintain their mental health.
The total income for the year of 2017 March 31 for Mental
health foundation was £4,683,430 and was 5.2% higher than the previous year.
The use of big texts in this poster is to catch the viewers
eye and make them want to read it. The one thinks I dislike about the title is
that it is hard to read the first letter as from a distance it doesn’t look
like a b. Another think I dislike about this the small text they have used to
put a positive message through. If I was going to read that message from far I
wouldn’t be able too as the text is too small. But the positive part of this
poster is the bright colours used in the background which is a bright pink
colour. With a cyan and white colour on top. This makes the text more readable.
I like this leaflet as it has a big range of colours in the
leaflet. The first colour is a bright colour which will be the first point of
contact for the viewer. The range of colours shows the different things and
means different things. The different colours represent different information.
I like this leaflet more as it gives more clearer information and is easily
readable to with funky unreadable text. They also include links which you can
go to for different types of information on the different things which are on
the leaflet.
